Time Lapse – Carolina Brewery Oktoberfest 5K

Today my favorite iPhoneographer and blogger of TheDailyGrunge.com, who also happens to be my wife Shirl, ran the Carolina Brewery Oktoberfest 5K race in the rain. It was perfect for me because it gave me a chance to see how water resistant my Optrix XD Sports Case is. Good news. My iPhone 4S was kept completely dry.

The Optrix passed the moisture test. But, I didn’t really give it a tough test. I used my umbrella as soon as the rain started coming down hard, as you can see in the time-lapse video below.

The Carolina Brewery Oktoberfest 5K race benefits the Abundance Foundation.

I shot this video using the iPhone App iMotion HD and edited it on my MacBook Pro using Final Cut Pro. The Optrix XD Sports Case kept the iPhone dry today, so you can expect to see more in the rain videos posted in this blog.

This time-lapse video is uncut throughout the race. All I did was chopped off the very beginning, before the race started and at the end on the way to the car after the race. So, the whole race from the beginning to when Shirl came across the finish line is in this 3 minute 28 second video.

You’ll see some shakiness in the video, especially when I was running to get to the finish line in time to video the first runners come across the finish line. Normally, the shaking would be distracting. However, by choosing the right music for the video, in this case some wild drumming, the shaking seems to go along with the music. Do you agree? Did I choose the right music?

Message to the runners: If you ran the race and you can’t see yourself in this fast paced video, don’t worry, there’s more coming.

I simultaneously took videos at normal speed with my Kodak Z10 on a mono-pod and will share them on this blog within the next few days. So, everyone who ran the race can be seen in those videos.
